About the artist:
Martin Cooke was born in Belfast in 1951. After leaving school he spent time as an architectural draftsman before turning to painting full time in 1978. Cooke initially worked in watercolours, exhibiting regularly with great success. He was elected a member of the Ulster Watercolour Society in 1989.

The style of Martins work shifted towards abstract expressionism in the late nineties. His current paintings are executed in a style that allows him to explore beyond the familiar and leave the original image behind. He paints mainly in acrylics, often on large canvases, working quickly and intuitively.

Martin has had numerous successful one-man exhibitions in Belfast, Dublin and New York as well as many mixed exhibitions with various Irish galleries and charities.

His work also features in many important private collections including, Seiko International, Tokyo, Bank of Ireland, Ulster Bank, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, MGM TV Holywood and Sterling Weizner.

Martin Cooke will hold his first solo show with the Leinster Gallery, Nov 20th -24th Dec 2008.
